Un arbre banyan géant projeté sur la mairie de Paris Centre. Ses racines — milliers de doigts ridés, carnels — évoquent l'histoire interconnectée et douloureuse d'une population de milliards. Symbole de longévité dans l'hindouisme et le bouddhisme, cet arbre prend vie : ibis huppés, stournes bronzés, chauves-souris l'habitent.
J'ai voulu évoquer mon attachement viscéral à la Chine et Hong Kong : l'humidité de l'été, les odeurs de fleurs et de pourriture exaltées par la chaleur du port. Une fenêtre ouverte sur l'autre côté du miroir : le chant du cygne d'une nature sauvage que nous avons asséchée et qui nous mord à nouveau.
En continuité avec le Square du Temple, l'arbre dialogue avec la nature parisienne environnante, rappelant ce que nous avons perdu.
A giant banyan tree projected onto Paris city hall. Its roots — thousands of wrinkled, carnal fingers — evoke the interconnected and painful history of a billion-strong population. Symbol of longevity in Hinduism and Buddhism, this tree comes alive: crested ibises, bronzed starlings, bats inhabit it.
I wanted to evoke my visceral attachment to China and Hong Kong: summer humidity, smells of flowers and rot exalted by the port's warmth. A window onto the other side of the mirror: the swan song of wild nature we dried up and that bites us back.
In continuity with Square du Temple, the tree dialogues with surrounding Parisian nature, reminding us what we've lost.
